How to draw from your Imagination: A Castillo Studios class.
Imagine it now. You’ve had the idea for your painting or drawing in your head for days. You’ve completed it in your mind a thousand times. You sit down at the table with your clean, shiny, blank canvas or paper ready for that image in your mind to rush forth and effortlessly appear.
However, it doesn’t. Instead, you sit staring at the blank page at a loss of where and how to start. As the seconds tick by that idea you had that seemed so easy in your mind, is now slowly becoming an impossible task. An idea so out of reach now, you wonder how you ever thought you could accomplish it.
Drawing from your imagination doesn’t have to be an act of anxiety or futility - if you know how to concept it first.
My class “How To Draw From Your Imagination” draws on My 22 years of experience in various industries from Video Game Design, Pre-Production concept work for films, movie poster designs, illustrations for tabletop games, and much, much more including covers to Strathmore Artist Papers green recycled sketchbook.
This class isn’t a class to teach you to draw better. This class teaches you how to think and think creatively. This class teaches you how to solve a problem and then solve the next one. Each time you sit at a blank page or canvas, it is a problem or puzzle you need to figure out.
How do I paint this?
Where do I put that?
Where does the light come from?
Do the shadows look right there?
The questions go on and on.
These endless questions go away when you learn how to break down, plan, and concept out your idea. Then you can get what’s in your head onto the page and finally draw from your imagination.

Hmmm, What's there to say about me? Where should I begin? Some would call me a dreamer of dreams, or a Bad@ss Motorcycle chick, but you can call me Sammy Castillo. I have been published for over 20 years and have had the privilege to work with and on some of the greatest titles and projects in the world.
Once upon a time, I was one-half of an amazing illustration and creation team with my late husband Tommy Castillo. Tommy had been published for 30 years and together we were some of the highest-published artists on the planet. We worked together in the industry and created some f*cking amazing art, which I still share with the world. I am also editor-in-chief at Scaretactix Comics, run my design studio: Castillo Studios, and still work as a full-time illustrator and writer.
Recently I have re-discovered myself as a solo-creator. I have broken away from the title of "artist" to “Creator”, and have discovered that I can create anything that is in my head with anything I can get my hands on.
When I'm not riding my motorcycle or traveling to conventions, you'll find me live streaming on my Twitch channel Castillo Studios sharing a bit of what I was taught and a lot of what I learned on this crazy adventure we call life.
