Product description

We will be making a traditional Scandinavian Advent Star. The star is meant to represent the Star of Bethlehem and is lit on the first Sunday of Advent. Advent means arrival or coming. Since the 5th century AD, it has been known as the beginning of the Christmas season and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Since the 1890s, Swedes have lit a candle every Sunday during Advent.

Supplies will be provided and include half inch reed. We will be using scissors, glue and clips.

Gail Karson Bio: Handwork and crafts were part of my early years. Embroidery, knitting and sewing were shared with my family. I was influenced by artists such as Franklin Bates, Frederick Graff and Grace Zay. The group known as the Whiskey Watercolorists gave inspiration to my painting. I am always looking for a unique perspective. I like creating compositions with high contrast, bright colors and highlights. I graduated with a BFA from Bowling Green State University. I belong to Handweavers Guild of America and the Jacksonville Weavers’ Guild. I enjoy my association with many art groups in Jacksonville. I also do commissions of family homes. Hope you enjoy a few of my favorite things with this workshop.
