Practicing color mixing to create vibrant and muted colors naturally with complementary colors to create a harmonious painting. Learning and practicing soft brushwork, working the painting as a whole and developing the painting from shapes and values. Instructor demonstrations with still life and landscape motifs.

Materials List:

Either Gamblin oil paints or Gamblin 1980(student grade).
Titanium white (largest tube) prefer Gamblin/Rembrandt/Sennelier/ Holbein brand not 1980
These can be Gamblin (1980 Gamblin or Holbein/Rembrandt) Substitutes are available for cadmium colors as seen below:

Note: Gamblin 1980 brand is inexpensive and a good quality. Next is Gamblin/Rembrandt then Sennelier.

These are Gamblin Named Products first

Cadmium yellow light- substitute use Lemon Yellow Sennelier
Cadmium yellow medium -can sub Gamboge Old Holland
Yellow ochre or gold ochre from Holbein
Cadmium Red Light or Napthol Red or French Vermillion
Alizarin Crimson
Cerulean Blue or Cobalt Blue or better Azure Blue Sennelier or Cyan Old Holland
Ultramarine Blue only deep or normal never a light version
Burnt Sienna sub Sennelier or Rembrandt (more brown and transparent than chalky red)
Pthalo Green or Viridian
Gamblin galkyd gel medium- preferred, but can use solvent-free galkyd or linseed oil.


Acrylic Painters- same colors as oil with Golden OPEN Products. Paint like an oil painter by slowing the drying time down with OPEN Gloss or Paints.

Brands:
Prefer some Open Golden Acrylics with a gloss open medium with main colors Aliz/Ultramarine blue/Cad yellow med
or
If using normal acrylic Golden paints or Liquitex

Must have large titanium white OPEN acrylics.
++++OPEN GLOSS MEDIUM that has a Retarder in it you can pour it into paint mixes to keep them wet and glossy.

If not using Open Paints at all, MUST HAVE OPEN GLOSS MEDIUM that has a Retarder in it and the Titanium White OPEN to make it work best..

Three 11 x 14 canvases or canvas panels for classes
Brushes- long handle only!
Prefer the inexpensive Robert Simmons filberts 4,6,8,10. Also include a smaller synthetic round, such as a 2 or 4. Blocking in brushes a 1/2 in or 1 inch to 2 inch synthetic cheap flats.

For those who don’t draw, transfer image using SARAL TRANSFER paper, in any color not white or graphite. or To transfer image to the canvas by drawing use either chalk pastel in a light colors or vine charcoal, kneaded eraser.

Palette- either wood or glass palette, can use parchment paper on it.
or best to save the paint!-Masterson palette seal and use the Grey Matters Paper Palette that fits into the Masterson.
Painters or masking tape
Wet wipes
Paper towels
Containers small plastic or glass for water or Gamsol OMS (only) but not necessary you use a lot of paper towels to clean brushes.
Bristle Magic brush cleaner for both acrylic and oil works well

Table easels are available. Bring a smock!
